Safer Gambling Initiative Through Sponsorship Funding

The Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) of Great Britain has issued a call for operators involved with sports sponsorship. With this call, the stress is put on how important it is for them to promote safer gambling to their fans.

Sponsorship Funding & Safer Gambling

BGC members finance £350m / $471m annually in horse racing as sponsorship, media rights, and levy payments. English Football League, is also saturated with a further £40m on sponsorship spent, £10m is spent on darts and snooker; the rugby union gets £2.5m.

Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, it has been evident that this sponsorship has proven vital but the BGC has highlighted how important it is for members to promote safer gambling among fans and sports stars.

To promote safer gambling Great Britain’s Betting and Gaming Council calls for sports sponsorships.

Gambling education that was launched back in 2018 and has been funded by EFL sponsor SkyBet and delivered by EPIC Risk Management is also included in this.

Raising Awareness

a training scheme aimed at every English Premier League Club that it partners with was launched by Betway that sponsors West Ham United as well. For employees who also include players and their coaches, the program aims to deliver safer gambling and responsible marketing sessions.

Additionally, a four-part “Know Your Limits” series was rolled up by Kindred Group. The series were featuring huge sports stars like Wayne Rooney, retired boxer Carl Frampton, and horse racing jockey Paddy Brennan in a bid to promote responsible gambling.

Relating to sport across the country there’s also a £10m Young People’s Gambling Harm Prevention Programme which includes the Premier League club Leicester City and Birmingham City of the Championship.

Code of Conduct

Code of conduct on the use of social media by football clubs is also regulated with the call issued by the BGC. On the social media feeds of the clubs, calls to action or links to gambling sites would be prohibited on organic tweets regulated as a code of conduct. By 20% all television and radio adverts are safer gambling messages, which was guaranteed by the BGC members.

Michael Dugher, the BGC Chief Executive reported on the proudness of their members for providing financial support to the sport in a variety of ways. However, it is expected and also important that this goes hand-in-hand with BGC’s work on promoting safer gambling.

Gambling has become extensively widespread and people are coming on board to test their luck and win the prices they dream off. However, the main purpose here is to promote and establish a safer gambling environment and make gambling accessible to its enthusiastically energetic practitioners.
